Randy Stewart Thompson – chairman of Valhalla Private Capital, managing director of Old Kent Road Financial and co-owner of Peterborough United Football Club – has opened up about the creative process at the heart of Valhalla Private Capital’s seafaring, Scandinavian name.
First launched as part of The VentureAlberta Forum - of which Randy acted as CEO - VA Angels was formed in 2003 before rebranding to Valhalla Private Capital in 2017.
“Valhalla is the viking heaven, but it was also the sense of the big banquet tent,” Randy began.
With a shared focus on entrepreneurs and investors, Randy claims “the big banquet tent” allows all parties involved to work together in a bid to nurture Alberta’s startup ecosystem.
On the topic, he continued: “At Valhalla, we've always felt that our investors are super important to us, and we'll do anything we can to make sure they get good exits; but our entrepreneurs are also super important to us, and we want to make make sure they understand what their expectations should be.
“Everybody at the party is important. That's the big tent.”
