Randy Stewart Thompson – chairman of Valhalla Private Capital, managing director of Old Kent Road Financial and co-owner of Peterborough United Football Club – has hailed that proprietary deal flow as “the only way to get ahead in the game for the next five years”.
“There's so much money on the street,” Randy began,” brand and reputation is one thing, but at the end of the day even that's not counting anymore - there's just so much good deal flow and so many investors that there's almost a race of 20 investors into the same deal.
“You see the same investors all over the place, but the rest of the deal flow isn't being talked to at all, and so trying to talk to that deal flow - letting them know why they're not getting pursued and how to get pursued - that's helpful for them.
As a result, Randy claimed that “You have to create your own deal flow” in order to “get ahead” in today’s startup ecosystem.
“If everyone's already in the deal, and you're just getting a thin sliver of it,” Randy concluded.
Randy also discussed the “secret tool” behind Valhalla’s success to date.
