Randy Stewart Thompson – chairman Valhalla Private Capital, managing director of Old Kent Road Financial and co-owner of Peterborough United Football Club – has revealed some of the startup categories he will be keeping an eye out for in 2022.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Randy maintains that medical tech which can support the Covid-19 self-testing process is “going to become big” in coming months.
This perspective was also recently supported by
Deloitte, whose annual
Tech Trends Report hailed technological advances which championed the “continued resiliency needed with COVID-19”.
With roughly 400 applications to pitch through Valhalla every month, Randy also believes the relationship between “artificial intelligence and HR” will be an important one moving forward, in spite of being an admittedly “weird space”.
Another point of interest for the Valhalla CEO is “the hybrid event space”, which he remarks has “got even worse” since the pandemic began.
On the topic, Randy elaborated: “If your boss sends you to a virtual trade show right now, you just want to slit your throat, right? Nobody's in the breakout rooms, nobody's in the conferences.
“The hybrid event space just fucking sucks, and so I think whoever creates an amazing hybrid event platform is going to kill it. That's a killer,” Randy concluded.
